What drives the price?

Five things, and none of them are national.

Species — dense hardwood costs more than mixed or softwood. Dryness — seasoned and kiln-dried command a premium over green. Volume — a full cord is cheaper per cubic foot than a quarter. Distance — most of what delivery costs is the drive. Stacking — usually a small add-on. That's why sellers quote your specific request instead of posting one rate, and why we don't print an average that would be wrong for your area.

Common questions

How much is a cord of wood?

A full cord is a tightly stacked 4 × 4 × 8 ft pile — about 128 cubic feet. A half cord heats most homes with regular evening fires for a season of moderate use.

Seasoned vs. green — which should I order?

Seasoned wood has dried 6–12+ months and burns clean and hot — buy it if you're burning this season. Green wood is fresher and cheaper; buy it a season ahead and let it dry.

Is requesting quotes really free?

Yes. Posting a request costs nothing and doesn't require an account. You only pay the seller you choose, at the price they quoted, through timber.bid's secure checkout.

Will you spam me?

No. Your email is used to deliver quotes for your request. Marketing email is a separate opt-in checkbox, and your phone number is only used for quote delivery — never marketing texts.

Is there free firewood near me?

Sometimes — tree crews and neighbors post surplus rounds, logs, and split wood on our free wood board, free to claim. It's usually green (needs seasoning); for ready-to-burn cords delivered, post a quote request.
